Sr. Program Director,
Community Partnerships and Engagements

Twila Waters, MSW

Twila Waters has been working for Step Up for Better Living (Step Up) since 2005 and is currently the director of Social Services. For as long as she can remember, she has had a passion for serving others in need. Twila attended Lehman College, and while in school, she interned for Part of the Solution (POTS). This internship gave her deep experience in social services and furthered her interest in nonprofit work. She enjoyed it so much, she continued working for POTS for another 11 years after her internship! Twila has an associate’s degree in Community Health from Bronx Community College, a master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College, and certificates in Mental Illness, Sexual Harassment, Trauma-Informed Care, and Management. Twila chose to join Step Up, formally known as Senior Living Options Inc., because she loves working with seniors and believes they possess great wisdom. In her current role, she teaches staff and interns how to be of service to people professionally; she also is in charge of counseling and engaging with our clients. Twila enjoys networking with other organizations that are interested in helping our clients and the community. Most important, she focuses on saying true to Step Up’s mission statement. Because the Bronx is the poorest of New York City’s five boroughs,Twila knows Step Up’s work there is vital. She is honored to have been a part of the Step Up team for the past 15 years and is touched that our clients trust her with their stories and life issues.
