Job Opportunities

Co-Executive Director, Service Excellence

About us:

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to helping low-income families remain in permanent housing while maximizing their opportunities for health, wellness, and self-sufficiency.  We serve families living in NYC’s neediest and most housing-insecure borough – the Bronx, and we ensure they remain connected to all the community resources available to them. What we do has a tangible impact for the people in our neighborhoods and gives those in need hope.

About your role:

As the Co-Executive Director of Service Excellence, you will report directly to the Board of Directors and you will work in partnership with the Co-Executive Director of Agency Growth to manage the operations, impact, and commitments of the agency. You will be accountable for overseeing the planning and execution of the strategic and operational plans related to the agency’s program operations and evaluation. In your role, you will be empowered to transform your understanding of the needs of the community to impactful programs and services that are aligned with the agency’s mission. As the Co-Executive Director, you will take the lead on all employee needs of the organization, including employee relations and learning and development as well as provide leadership and direct management to staff within the areas of oversight.

Your key areas of accountability:

  • Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation – Based on your understanding of the needs of the individuals and communities we serve, you will create, innovate, and lead the team in the development and delivery of programs and services that have a measurable impact. You will provide oversight and operational direction to the Social Services team and, in partnership with the Co-Executive Director of Agency Growth, you will plan for the future growth of the agency, ensuring all needed resources and staffing are in place to deliver to the agency’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Workforce Planning and Staff Management – Beyond the traditional management responsibilities of determining staffing requirements and managing the performance of the team, you will empower staff to take ownership for their roles and established goals by delegating responsibility, expecting accountability, and providing regular feedback. You will serve as a coach and a mentor to senior management staff, providing them with opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • General Leadership, Operations & Administration – In partnership with the Board of Directors and the Co-Executive Director of Agency Growth, you will help shape the vision and contribute to the strategic plan of the agency. You will be involved in budgetary, infrastructure, operational and reporting activities, evaluating current performance as well as planning for future growth. You will seek opportunities to partner with community leaders, non-profit groups and agencies and other mission-relevant stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration in expanding the programs/services or community reach of the organization.

What you will need to be successful:

From an educational and experiential perspective, you will be best positioned for success if you:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in social work, public administration, non-profit management, or related field from an accredited institution (an MBA or PhD degree is desirable).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in the nonprofit Human Services field.
  • Can demonstrate a track record of driving non-profit growth and delivering high-impact programs and services to low-income individuals and families.

From a behavioral standpoint, the focus of this role is making connections with people, motivating and inspiring them to achieve results. As such, poise and an engaging, empathetic communication style based on natural warmth and enthusiasm will be key in your ability to achieve the key objectives of this role and you will drive toward results by enrolling the commitment and buy-in of others. While the job requires strong initiative and self-direction, you will be most successful if you are able to deliver results working with and through people. The role requires a “selling” rather than “telling” communication style, whether it’s about ideas and policies within the organization, or services in the community. The job environment is fast-paced and results-oriented, so you will need to effectively delegate and share responsibility to deliver against strategic objectives.  Your ability to understand, quickly react and motivate others to adapt to a constantly changing environment is a critical key to your success in this role. If you are a self-motivated and motivating team builder and organization developer with high integrity and accountability, then this is the right role for you.
